Fortinet’s FortiGate 80E next-generation firewall (NGFW) offers security at a good price point, making it one of the most popular firewall solutions available in the market today. Arriving in a compact desktop form factor, the FortiGate 80E offers protection against cyber threats for midsized businesses and branch offices.
Why Choose Fortinet FortiGate Firewall 80E?
The FortiGate 80E performs deep inspection, moving beyond protocol and intrusion prevention. Designed to thwart harmful traffic, the 80E protects your data. This NGFW appliance prevents malicious and unauthorized access. The firewall solution does this through path-guided updates, signature matching, SSL decryption, and other more sophisticated malware-blocking strategies. Fortinet’s FortiGate 80E comes in a fanless desktop form factor. In spite of its compact size, it employs secure SD-WAN and UTM technologies. These features are working together to deliver end-to-end network security in one platform.

How To Use
- You have two options when installing the hardware: either mounted on the wall or laid on a flat surface.
- When mounting on the wall, make sure you secure the screws with the mounting bracket.
- You can find the power socket on the back. Attach it to a power source with the provided power cable.
- When installing the unit on a flat surface, make sure that clearance on all sides of the unit to give adequate airflow. For full details in installation, here’s Fortinet’s Cookbook on FortiGate 80E Installation Guide.
Fortinet is an American multinational corporation headquartered in Sunnyvale, California, founded in 2002. It is one leader in IT cybersecurity, developing cybersecurity software and appliance services. As the threat landscape continues to become more advanced, so is the need to use next-generation firewalls (NGFWs) that offer deep inspection and advanced overall threat protection. What makes the FortiGate 80E better than other firewalls in the market is its affordability and ease of usage. Many users find its GUI simple and easy to get around. Fortinet provides FortiCare Services and ongoing technical support for Fortinet products.
On the downside, users reported encountering crashes requiring hard reboots that could impact production. Reporting is also not in real-time which hopefully can improve on future versions.
